The Photographer

Born in Amsterdam, my interest in photography started as a dance photographer and intern photo editor at Dance Magazine in New York where I became a published photographer, as well as in NRC Handelsblad and with NDT I in The Netherlands.

I moved on to become a personal assistant to the celebrated fashion photographer Denis Piel in New York and Toulouse, France. After this I became an independent photographer and located my workplace to Berlin, Germany, where I currently live.

Over the years, I've had the pleasure of working with some influential figures in the worlds of art, business, and politics, such as Maestro Daniel Barenboim, billionaire and philanthropist Munib al-Masri, Israeli former minister Jossi Beilin and others.

I'm specialized in portrait, documentary and general news assignments and received an honorable mention from the Lucie Foundation in New York for one of my commercial portraits. Reportages were for 'The Hague Thinking' on the International Criminal Tribunal and for the Dutch daily newspaper 'De Telegraaf' on SPD frontrunner Martin Schulz, and others.

My photos are available in print upon request, and pieces from the series have been featured in group and solo exhibitions, among at Kunstraum Oranienburger in Berlin. Striving not only to find inspiration but also to inspire others, I'm a passionate 'photo jockey' and founder of the Instagram feed 'The Sovereign Photographer'. The feed is now managed by a Berlin-based photography team, honoring great work and the stories behind it.

Today, I balance a corporate job, with restoring an old boat, and writing short stories and columns. My passion for writing took a personal turn with a recent publication in a respected Dutch magazine. The story? A short tale of a sailing adventure across the North Sea to England.
