Departing from the historic port of Berlin (http://www.historischer-hafen-Berlin.de/ and recommended to go visit before departure) we pass the ‘East Side Gallery’, which is pretty unique to experience from the water as you will get a better feel of the swimming lengths while fleeing from east to west in those days.
Ironically the trip follows bypassing some big cooperations such as MTV and others, that over the years have established their headquarters mainly on the former eastern shore.
Contrasting this development we then motor straight into ‘Rummelsburger Bucht’, an area known for its unique boat squatting; self-made wonders of creations and symbols of independent and free-living; here you find a large selection of houseboats of all shapes and sizes.
Continuing through Schonefeld and Köpenick (the latter known for the imposter Hauptmann von Köpenick) and all the way down to Grünau: famous for a 2000-meter long regatta course which was the venue for the canoeing and rowing competitions of the 1936 Olympic Games and is the oldest sports facility in Berlin.
Even today, regattas are still held here and if we’re lucky a regatta will actually take place while we’re passing by.
Afterward, it’s peace and quiet where anchoring and a wonderful swim are possible in crystal clear clean water. Home to the largest forest in Berlin you will be dropped off between Schmöckwitz and Grünau at a restaurant called Karolinenhof.
Karolinenhof restaurant
A lovely restaurant with only a 10-minute walk to the tram that takes you to Köpenick where you can transfer to the S Bahn back into town. Tickets for the tram (5,95 each) are available for purchase on the boat and a timetable of the tram hours as well, so no hassle, you’re all set for the trip back.
About the boat and the captain;
You’ll be motoring on a characteristic Dutch flat-bottomed boat. Originally a sailing boat, the boat is now turned into a motorboat and the authentic elements like the side swords are blended into the interior and transformed into tables and benches.
The boat has a generous inside where 6 people can sit, wine, and dine easily. Uniquely spacious it’s standing height all the way from back to the front where the sleeping space is turned into a launch.
The integrated sound system reaches throughout the whole space and you can hook up your Spotify to the blue-touch radio enjoying your prefered music for the trip.
It has a toilet like at home, the only difference is that the water flush is limited therefore we ask you to please use it for peeing only and please dispose of toilet paper in the bin ;)
The outer space is generous as well with cute sitting areas throughout the whole length of the boat. Enjoy the view from the front deck and have dinner in the cockpit, it’s all possible. Apart from salon tables for drinks, there is a foldable dinner table that can be used for wining and dining up to six people.
The boat has a swimming step at the back and can easily be anchored with an electric anchor .
Furthermore, the boat has a fully equipped kitchen with 3 pits to heat up your own brought food, a fridge to keep your own brought beverages cold and cubers full of glasses, plates, clutters, etc. available for use. Oh.., and a sink to do a quick dish wash to limit the cleaning afterward for the host ;)
Talking about the host… You’ll get a lovely host/captain who motors you from Berlin center down to Grunau. She will require some assistance with docking and anchoring but nothing you can’t do ;) And enjoy her instructions, you might even learn a thing or two (if you didn’t know already ;)
Having motored the boat all the way from Holland to Berlin she has plenty of sailing hours behind her belt and several certificates in her pocket.
Although she knows Berlin well enough to give you the background information on the areas we pass, her main focus is motoring. This is an informal tour where you can enjoy a private gathering with a captain that leaves you in peace and/or can give you the ins and outs of the surrounding, it’s up to you. So easygoing and enjoy the trip!
Motoring from Berlin Center to Grunau takes approx. 2,5 hours, with an hour of anchoring and swimming this trip takes 3,5 hours total for 290 EUR all-inclusive (diesel, captain & cleaning). If you like to make use of the public transport tickets, these costs are additional and please give a heads up on forehand, thanks!
To ensure a great quality tour, we allow a maximum of 6 persons per group. If you want to extend the trip a bit because of a stop-over or to anchor a bit longer... no worries! The price for an extra hour is €79.
